Money, mind, and soul are intertwined. Negative money thoughts and behaviors are roadblocks to manifesting our vision of prosperity. I will offer suggestions that will help you overcome these obstacles.
We all have a money personality. By examining your own thoughts and behaviors you can reveal your money type. After you have defined your money type, ask if those tendencies are detracting from your quality of life. If the answer is yes, get some advice to help you develop a plan to bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be.
Two money personality types are money avoiders and money amassers. Amassers are preoccupied with keeping large sums of money at their disposal. This obsessive concern may be detrimental to your quality of life. Money avoiders avoid money management at all cost. They do this to escape any anxiety or feelings of incompetence that money matters can trigger.
Almost all of us are addicted to something. There are at least three attitudes that suggest money addiction; an obsession, lack of control or repeating the same patterns despite negative consequences. Compulsive spending and hoarding are two of the many money addictions.
When we are driven to spend, regardless of our resources, we are exhibiting compulsive spending. Some spend to alter their feelings -- feelings that are negative due to emotional or spiritual depletion. If one is a compulsive spender, keeping a spending journal, being aware of the consequences, and asking the question “what will happen if I do not purchase it?” are all good steps to overcoming this impulse.
Hoarders dislike spending. When this dislike causes conflict with loved ones and deprives you of enjoyment and satisfaction, it becomes an issue. A good exercise is to explore the roots of the beliefs behind this behavior.
If these or similar irrational money behaviors are preventing you from obtaining your vision, you could benefit from working with a counselor who has experience with money issues. I have introduced the psychology of money. My next journal entry will focus on ancient healing. In the future I will go into more detail about money personalities and money addictions.
